Paul Nielsen is listed in various locations or farms in the Loten region just east of present day Hamar. This hilly region is about a hundred miles north of Oslo. This is about the same latitude as Anchorage, Alaska. Large families with limited farm land and short growing seasons caused many to see immigration as a way for the younger generations to prosper.

The census records show Paul Nielsen to be in various villages in the Løiten/ Tomtereie region.

1834, 11 Apr - Paul's first marriage to Mari Jensdatter Larsen probably took place in Helgeaasen. She apparently already had three daughters.

1835, 19 Jan. - birth of his first daughter, Lina Paulsdatter, took place probably in Helgeaasen.

We have no information on how or when Mari Jensdatter died. It had to have been between 1835 and about 1843. We also don't have any information on what happened to her earlier children.

1843, 25 May - Paul Nielsen marries again to Martha Eriksdatter in Skaarashagen, Norway

1865- Census records of Romedal Parish, Norway shows Even Pauls (Paul's son). with his mother, Marthe Erikd. (Erik's daughter) living on the land of Mathias Christians. Sund, a parish preacher within the "Rohne Skoledistrikt." It seems times were tough for Even's mother, at this time 45 years old. Even's father had died when he was about nine years old. His mother is apparently working here for the parish preacher's family as a milk maid as part of the support needed for the family. Even is eighteen and working on the farm with his brother Johan Magnus and his sister Pauline. Another daughter Martha seems to be working as a house servant for anther family in the area.

Mathea Paulsdatter perhaps living in Nordryn and may have moved to Oslo. Maurice Jenson says that she is may have been a singer in Oslo. [Maurice Jenson After Paul Neilsen's death Martha is known to have lived in these villages

1865, Dec 31 - Helene Paulsdatter went to live in Vestre Loken with her mother. [records of Maurice Jenson]

1866- Johan Magnus Rohne, Evan Paulson Rohne, and Pauline Paulsdatter lived with their mother at Romedal Prestegard. [records of Maurice Jenson]

1867, Dec. 30 - Martha Eriksdatter Nielson, widow, marries Johan Dyhresen, who died July 4, 1880. [records of Maurice Jenson]
