Walter Smith Collier was a first cousin of Forrest Kirkland.   Walter had studied with Forrest Kirkland perhaps in Memphis, Tennessee.  He moved to Dallas, TX. by 1920.

1920- Walter S. Collier, (27) is in Dallas with his wife, Mabel,(30) and their daughter, Melba (3.5 yrs). He lists his occupation as bookkeeper for Western Union. [US census]

1930 - US Census, Dallas, Dallas Co., Texas. [enum. Dist. 57-78, sheet 244] They seem to be living at 2706 S. Marsallis Ave.,   There is an inconsistency in this record with Walter saying he is born in Tenn. while the children's father is born in Texas.

They live in Dallas where all the children attended school and graduated. Carroll Collier eventually goes to work for and apprentices with Forrest Kirkland as a commercial artist. After Forrest's death in 1942 Carroll continued his career as an illustrator in Dallas.

Edith Collier and Roy Kirkland, Forrest's son, go to movies together while she is in high school.
