births according to Birgit Bjorn and Henrik Nielsen

As Google translated from Danish and the Birgit Bjorn and Henrik Nielsen website.

Jens Lauridsen Tagvad was at the 1688 cavalry rider in Tagvad - later called Thagaard, in Humlum, By the count in 1664 the horse farm head count was 9-1-1-1, but in 1688 the count was reduced to 5-3-0-0. The farm Thagaard in Humlum parish is mentioned for the first time in 1483, when named Tagvad, when the nobleman Hans Olufsen Galskyt of Trabjerggaard in Gudum parish gave a portion of Tagvad to Gudum monastery for a farm south of Trabjerggaard. The bishop objected to the change of power, so King Hans commanded in 1492 that Hans Olufsen Galskyt would give Tagvad and 100 marks of glory to Gudum monastery for his new farm. In 1495 it was declared a parishist that the brook that goes from Tagvad to Bassidal is true border between Tagvadgaard and the land Ove Runge lived in, and that the man who goes from Tagvad to Syvenskjær (Sundskjær) was the right owner of Tagvad, and outside the dike is common to Tagvad and drifted to Vesterby.1577 there was a landslide between Tagvad and Kjær - it started at the pond between Kjær and Nørgaard at the old ditch, and the west broke the pond, and the ground between Kjær's land and Tagvad soil was common for both "cities". Tagvad must have the name of a ford where it grows "roof", roofing pipes. There is also a meadow tub in the yard. After the reformation in 1536, Tagvad went to the king, and later it was laid out for ridergods. 21.2.1682 Magschifted Christian Juul, Liberian of Russian Stone, Humlum Churchet and Church Mortgage, 22 Barrels of Grains, Against Hygom Churchill and Church Mortgage of 45 ½ Barley Corn Grain. Christian Juul had to pay 550 rigsdaler above. The church's landlord and the church property in Humlum, which the king took over, included "Togved, Tagenskouf, Stoerlund, Londerlund, Skidensig, Avindtsberg and Brenholt.

I've been away from my genealogy too long and want to share some information that I found awhile ago. Some of you may know this but if you haven't visited this message board it will help explain how we think George made it to America from Denmark. Here is the message board I found at Rootsweb and explains so much about our family. I need to register again to get to the link but you can search on the information provided.

(Thagaard Archives back to 1400's)

Hallo Shirley

Here I am again and I will start to answer Your questions. Related to Maren Thagaard , I do not know, but to the mother in law of, Erling Vester Jacobsen´s, yes I am , and his book is written in Danish. No I have not read what, he wrote about the Thagaard Book on the internet. Viking’s ? perhaps but I do not know. The oldest person in the Thagaard family , he is from about 1640 - 1714, on my Mother’s family , I have com back to about 1400. Yes I understand German also, if the person I talk to, speak slowly I speak a little German my self (Tourist level) and because Norwegian and Swedish are very much alike Danish , I also understand this. If You know anyone Thagard’s who have Norwegian ancestry’s , they come from my line , because it is my 6 or 7 Great , Great Grandfather his half brother moved to Norway and he started the Norwegian line. You do not need a Visa here in Denmark, we can travel in America without a Visa, so why must you!

Below You see one of my ancestors sealing wax (8 or 9 Great, Great Grandfather, and Erling Vester has got a drawing by Lithographic Artist Hans Möller a pro.

The Sealing wax is laterally reversed as a politeness against his Wife, who was Margrethe Johanne Christine de Moldrup of noble birth. The Thagaard family( ancestors by Jens Lauridsen 1640-1714 who was living in “Thagaard” farm) have the copyright of the drawing , one can use it as a decoration – book-plate - on writing paper , - signet .

My youngest daughter Tina and I had made the name below the drawing , I myself use the drawing on my writing papers.

One of the most well known expert in heraldry in Denmark, have praise the drawing , and will use it in a book for collection of arms.

James Earl Thagard pay a archivist Henning Paulsen in Viborg Archives and here I transcribe:

13-9-1966

It has been a rather difficult task to search information on the Thagaard- family .

Tagvad , “ vad” that is the place where you pass a little river; and Tagvadgaard the nearest farm thereby, written shortly Tagvad og T(h)agaard , the farm is not placed in a village , but lonely, and the first record of it is , as you know , that the nobleman Hans Olufsen of the Trabjerggaard- manorhouse in the year of 1483 gave or sold Thagaard to the Benedictine nuns-monastery of Gudum. After the ecclesiastical reform of 1536 the monasterial properties fell in the hand of the king, and we know that in 1688 Thagaard had been laid under the cavalry, and that the farmers name was Jens Lauridsen (Thagaard) and that he rented about 550 kilogr. Of seed to the military cash. He died 1714.

His son Laurids Thagaard bought the farm by auction from the King for about 240 thalers in 1717, 27th dec .

Another son of Jens Thagaard , Jens Jensen Thagaard lived as a merchant in Aalborg and died march 27th 1734(our Lady parish) 46½ years old – his wife Ide Gregersdatter, buried may 20 th 1733, 55½ years old, thy had no children living, so in the partition act after him the heirs recorded were his brothers and sisters, all of them said to have been born in Thagaard af “ honourable and matrimonial parents” . Jens Lauridsen (Thagaard) and Margrethe Pedersdatter, viz Laurids Jensen Thagaard , owner af Thagaard, - Mads Jensen Thagaard, owner of a farm in Humlum village,- Bertel Jensen Thagaard in Majgaard , Mejrup parish, - Ole Jensen Thagaard in Vester Ölby, Ölby parish under the estate af Bäkmark – Anders Jensen Thagaard Merchant in Aalborg. These were all the living brothers of Jens Jensen Thagaard in 1734. His only sister was Kjirstine Jensdatter Thagaard married to Jens Knudsen Riis in Resen village, Resen parish.

The parishes af Humlum, Ölby and Resen are all in the county af Ringkøbing.

Laurids Jensen Thagaard in Thagaard , who brought the farm in 1717 and was mentioned in the act of 1734, was married to Maren Christensdatter- the parish-register is very fragmentary in this period - he died oct 8th 1745, 67 years old , his wife died 1744. - The partition act after him sayes, that he left seven children 1. Jens Lauridsen Thagaard, 28 years old 2.Christen Lauridsen Thagaard 26 y.o. 3. Jens Lauridsen Thagaard 5 y.o. 4. Karen Lauridsdatter Thagaard 25 y.o. 5.Margrethe Lauridsdatter Thagaard 17 y.o. 6. Maren Lauridsdatter Thagaard 11 y.o. 7. Ide Margrethe Lauridsdatter Thagaard 7 y .o

The eldest son Jens was the trustee of the two youngest and took over the farm, but it was his sister Karen and her husband Peder Jepsen, who lived there and they bought it from him in 1760

This eldest Jens , born in 1718, got tradeesman’s licence in Aalborg aug 24th 1742, was from about 1765 counsellor of justice, 1767-70 owner af Langholt manor in Aalborg county, went bankrupt in 1770, took up again his commerce and died jan sec 1794 at Söholt manor , Fuglslev parish county of Randers. He married 1. may 28th 1743 Johanne Andresdatter Balling + april 14th 1773, 71 years old 2. sep 15th 1776 Helena Cathrine Brönsdorph, buried nov 28th 1780, 48 years old . 3. sep 28th 1781 Anna Elisabeth Lüttichau born 1736 + may 31th 1796 in Horsens, all three widows, and he left no children .

Christen Lauridsen Thagaard , farmer in Stokkendal, Humlum parish, died before 1803, his 8 children used the surname Dahl

Jens Lauridsen Thagaard , municipal broker in Aalborg died Aug 27th 1796 married Sep 4th 1782 to Anna Lassenia Jörgensen burried mar 15th 1803, who was widow, no children

Laurids Thagaard county clerk in Thisted 2.Jeppe Thagaard in Nörre Markholm in Resen parish died before 1803( children Jeppe 12 years and Karen 10 years old in 1803) 3. Maren Thagaard (died Jan 14-1828) married to Jens Lauersen i n Tagvad Skov 4. Anne Mergrethe Thagaard married to Mads Knudsen owner of Thagaard

Margrethe Lauridsdatter Thagaard married to Morten Pedersen Winkel in Pilgaard, Nörre Nissum parish
