I know little about the Jon Syversen's life in Furnes. The sheriff was more typically an elected or an agreed upon official often used to settle land and property issues.

The farm name has been spelled many different ways in different times and documents, Oluf Rygh's work on Norwegian Farm Names lists several reference to early church records of the 1300's.
