This farm is probably 800 ft above the valley
floor. They have a spectacular view from here but it makes
farming a challenge because so many of the fields are on a sloop
of some sort, sometimes quite steep. This is a beautiful
area. The snow in the winter has to make this a very
challenging location. It is a high tech dairy farm with
about 85 head of cattle on an automated 24 hour a day computer
milking program. This is very small by comparison to US
dairy operations. The farmers are government allocated a certain
amount of milk production to keep them viable.
During the 1930's they rented out rooms to
vacationers to help make ends meet. I think they still may
do this periodically.
