Richard Tydings apparently came to the colonies about 1649 and established himself. By the date of his death he seems to have a considerable estate. He bought the following property in 1663 and was in residence in the colonies by 1657.
Richard TYDINGS was in MD by 1657.
1663,10 Aug. - Richard TIDINGS, cooper, granted the deed and
assigment to Elizabeth BREWER.
That he was of age at this time disputes claims by some
researchers he was born in Dec. 1654 in Anne Arundel Co., MD
The Sparrow Connection Debate
There are a number of researchers that have listed Richard Tydings wife
as Charity Sparrow but at least one researcher has debated this
conclusion. There seems to be a Thomas Sparrow who was supposed to have
had a daughter Charity Sparrow. She does not show up in the following
will.
This record shows the first Thomas SPARROW was deceased by 1659, with children Thomas (Jr.) and Elizabeth.
There is no record in the Tydings family that also indicate that either Richard Sr. or Jr. were married to a Sparrow and birth, marriage and death dates seem to refute that possibility. One additional note is that there were two ships which took passengers to Plymonth from England named the "Charity" and "Sparrow". The Charity and Sparrow both made voyages to Plymouth in 1622. This may be a pure coincidence rather than having anything to do with these family names.
