There were numerous members of the Roney families in
Henry Co., Alabama and several of them migrated to Arkansas with
the Terry, Kirkland and Spann families about 1870 - 1880.
The family roots are still somewhat mysterious but early records
seem to indicate that they first immigrated from Ireland then to
Virginia, next to North Carolina, South Carolina. They
show up in Alabama about 1830 shortly after the territory opens
up. The spelling variation also present a complication to
doing research since we find the as Ronie, Ronny, Rony, Ronney,
Rany, Raney, Ramey, etc.

1900 - US Census - Ashley Co., Roll 49 page 163 - Nancy is here with
her son, Leroy. Hugh Roney is an apparent nephew. I still
don't know if we have the correct family here.
