In 1535 King of England Henry VIII adds "of the Church of England in Earth, under Jesus Christ, Supreme Head" to his royal style. Henry proclaims himself, not the Pope, to be the head of the Church of England. [Timeline_of _the_English_Reformation.  wikipedia 2020]

In 1536 the county of Flintshire in Wales was established under the direction of Henry VIII under the Laws in Wales Acts 1535-1542.  [wikipedia 2020] Whether this had anything to do with the family moving into Cheshire County, England is still an open question. This county has a long history of being a center of industry even in the 1500's.  I'm still researching the occupation of this family.  Several families seem very committed to become ministers in the 1600's.  If the family was ultra religious they may have lost their position in Henry VIII's government but other industries also have other possibilities such as slate mining nearby or tanning leather as the records below indicate.

Richard Span, according to some of the land records apparently associated with him, seems to have had a "gentleman's" status in the community and been a major businessman or land owner.   This may have gone back many more generations than the available records presently indicate.   Catherine Denson may be the daughter of William Denson, the baker.  I'm assuming that Richard Sponne would marry someone of equal economic status.  No other Deinison or Densons could be found prior to this marriage.  Also no spelling of Span or Spanne is found in these records, only Sponne.

1580 - The birth/christening/marriage dates we have for this family are not likely.   It is conceivable that the entire family was baptized at one time but not for both the marriage and the births as listed in the extracted parish records for Cheshire Co., England.   I would say that the list of children is probably much more accurate.

1585 Nov 2 - William Denson, the apparent brother of Catherine, marries Margret Morey in Saint John the Baptist Church, Chester, Cheshire, England.  [LDS international files, Cheshire Co., England]

I have no other information on this family than what is listed.  The records are available through the LDS Family Research Center.  The dates for the births of children cannot be accurate because the date listed for the marriage is the same as the births of the children.  All we can assume from this is a very approximate time.
