1850- US Census, Laurens Dist, South Carolina, page 315

1860 - T. O. P. Terry is 32 years old and had moved to Ashley Co., Arkansas. He was already pretty prosperous having assets of $12000 which was mostly in a number of slaves. His slave schedule lists 13 slaves in what appears to two couples and their children from 1 to 14 years old.

1861-65 - "TOP" Terry enlists in the Confederate State Army even at the ripe old age of 33 or 34. He shows up in Co. H, Wright's Regiment of the Arkansas Calvary, as a private. He leaves the service as a private. This is the same regiment that his brother, John W. Terry who is listed as a leutenant. [Index of Arkansas Confederate Soldiers, Vol III, P-Z page 123]

1870 - US Census,  Hamburg, Ashley Co., Arkansas. page 166.

1880- W. S. is 49 years of age and living in Hamburg, Ashley Co, Arkansas. His occupation is listed as "Miller." all children listed above are living with him and his wife, Elizabeth.

His occupation for most of his life is as a"miller," probably both a saw mill and a grist mill.

1889, Apr 4 - "L. W. H. Terry, of South CArolina, is visiting his cousin, Dr. A. W. Terry.[Lee p. 5]

1897, June 10 - "Sallie Guise, 12 -year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Guise, stepped off the gallery at the residence of Dr. A. W. Terry last Sunday night, and broke both bones of her left arm between hand and elbow, the fall being about five feet.[Lee p. 47]

1897, July 29 -"Dr. A. W. Terry receive a letter from his sister Miss Lenora Terry, Saturday night last, conveying the sad news of the death of his mother. Mrs. Jane Terry, Denver, Colorado, on Wed. July 21st, 1897. This good lady came with her husband, Mr. To. O. P. Terry, and the above named children from South Carolina in 1859, the family residing in this community until 1881 when they moved to Eureka Springs. Two years ago they moved to faraway Colorado." Mary Vance Norfleet who has the John McDowell Terry bible says that Jane Terry is said to have died on 22 July 1897 at age 75 in Denver, CO. [Norfleet 2/6/03]

1900- "TOP" Terry dies in Denver, Colorado. Walter R. Terry and Dr. Alonze Terry are near each other in Ashley Co, Carter Twp. Arkansas/. [vol. 1, enum dist. 10, sheet 10] Walter Terry is operating a sawmill w/ wife Nellie and children.

US Census, Colorado, Arapahoe Co., Denver. Series: T623  Roll: 118  Page: 298   (2218 Downing Ave.) He is living with his daughter.

Robert Y. H. Terry (W. S. 's brother ) is listed as a boarder to Alonze W. Terry, dentist, son of T. O. P. Terry. Robt. is a "drummer" or salesman. A. W. Terry , the son of T. O. P. Terry of 1880 Ashley/ [Ashley Co. , Carter Twp. enum dist. 10, sheet 10 and 7 Roll: 49  Page: 201]

1904, Mar 3 - "Sy Sanders, about 21, son of Mr. S. B. Sanders, died yesterday morning from measles and pneumonia. He lived on Dr. A. W. Terry's place." [Lee p.87]

1904, April 28 - Dr. William Terry, born Hamburg, 1865, son of Thomas L. and Mrs. Martha Terry, died in Denver, Colo., April 8th, 1904. Dentist, practiced with his brother, Dr. C. H. Terry, since 1896. Buried in Shreveport, La., his former home. Deceased was a cousin of Mrs. H. A. Harris. [Lee p. 89]

1908, Mar 26 - Mr. R. Y. H. Terry, for many years a a prominent and highly esteemed citizen of this community, died at the home of his son, W. T. Terry, in Lebanon, Tenn., yesterday morning. He leaves one son, W. T., and one daughter, Miss Elsie, both of whom were reised in Hamburg. He also has two nephews here: Walter Terry adn Dr. A. W. Terry He was about 72 years of age. [Lee p. 148]

1909, April 29 -

"Mr. W. F. McCombs Dead: Mr. W. F. McCombs, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Ashley County, died at his home in this city about twelve o'clock Saturday Last, April 24th, 1909, after an illness lasting several months. He was born in Kentucky in 1838, and came to this county with his parents more than forty years ago. In 1861, he enlisted as a Condederate soldier in Capt. High's company, Hardee's division. Being discharged in December of same year, he abaoin entered the service in 1862, joining the first Arkansas Cavalry, Fagan's Reg't., Afterwards known as Fagan's Brigade. He served on the west side of the Mississippi River during his entire service in the army, and took part in the battles of Cane Heill, Peach Orchard, Camden, Poison Springs, and Mark's Mill. For his bravery he was promoted to Lieutenant in 1863, and was dispatched to Austin, Texas, on business in connection with the Government, and as a consequence missed the famous raid of Gen. Price through Missouri. After his return to his post of duty, he was placed in command of a company which finally surrendered at Shreveport, La. After the close of the great conflict, he went to Marshall, Texas, remaining there but a short time, when he joined his father's family who had moved from Texas to Arkansas during the war. On arriving in Arkansas he assumed charge of his father's business, selling goods on Bayou Bartholomew and conducting a farm. In the fall of 1866 he opened a a general store in Hamburg, where he has resided .... He is survived by three sons, and three daughters W. F. McCombs, Jr., of New York; Robert and Ashton of this city; Mrs. Randall Silverman of Beaumont, Texas, and Misses Corinne and Ethel of this city. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. W. E. Guise, Mrs. A. W. Terry, and Mrs. J. E. Kirkpatrick, all of this city. His eldest son, W. F., and his yougest daughter, Miss Corinne, were in New York City, and started for home at once on learning of their father's death, but failed to arrive until after the funeral, which took place from the family residence at half past four o'clock on Monday afternoon. Services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Moseley, assisted by Rev. C. H. Maury. [Lee p. 170]
