Will of Jabez Terry
South Carolina Greenville District } In the name of God Amen I Jabez Terry of the State and district aforesaid, being weak & sick of bodily health, but of sound and disposing mind and memory call to mind the frailty and uncertainty of human life and being desirous of settling my worldly affairs and directing how the Estate with which it has pleased God to bless me shall be disposed of after my decease whih I have strength and capacity so today do make and publish this my last will and Testament hereby revoking and making null and void all other last wills and Testaments by me heretofore made, and first I commend immortal being to him who gave it and my body to be buried decently by my Executors herein after named And as to my worldly Estate and all the property real and personal or mixed of which I shall be seized and possessions or to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease, I devise, bequeath and dispose thereof in the manner following to wit Imprimis My will is that all my jsut debts and funeral charges shall by my Executors herein after named by paid out of my Estate as soon after my decease as shall be them found convenient Item First I give devise and bequeath to my beloved Wife Elizabeth D. Terry all my Estate both real and personal which I now posses to have and to hold all and singular the said Estate to her own use and behalf during her natural life and at her death I order the aforesaid Estate that is whatever is remaining in her hands at her decease to be sold at public sale and the proceeds of said sale to be equally divided between my six children to wit: Ann McDowell Terry, Mary Jane Terry, James Thomas Terry, Caroline Augustus Terry, Lucinda Terrance Terry and Samantha Rebecca Terry Item Second & lastly I hereby nominate and appoint my Brother Gaston Terry to be the Executor of this my last will and Testament In testimony whereof I the Jabez Terry have to this my last will and testament ____ on this one sheet of paper whereupon I have subscribed my name and affixed my seal this Thirty first day of March in the year of out Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty three.
