1730-40 - born in either VA or North Carolina
1764 - June 5 . John Wells petitioned the
Governor and Council for 200 acres of land on Brier Creek, St. George's
Parish, a mile from John Dahart, having then been two years in the
province and having a wife and one child. Petition granted.

1765 - Feb. 5th. Absalom Wells, Senr
petitioned, setting forth that he had purchased all the rights and
titles of William David in a to 200 acres of land on McBean's Swamp in
St. George's Parish - that the petitioner had been about three months
from North Carolina, having a child and three slaves. Granted in his
name. (Ibid. X., p238) On Decenber 1, 1767, he petitioned again, eight
months in the provice; 200 acres already granted him; wife, four
children and 4 negroes; 150 acres on Brier Creek adjoining George
Walker. Granted

1766- John Wells family moves from North
Carolina to Georgia .
1767 - John Wells filed a petition ; 200 acres
on a branch of Brushy Creek, within three miles of David Emanuel, Jr.
Granted 150 acres to adjoin William Johnson. [Col. Rec. of Ga. X,
p.289]
Will of Solomon Boykin, St. George's Parish,
8/5/1770- 5/31/1771, gives his son, Jesse 200 acres on Brier Creek,
adjoining John Wells.

"Absalom Wells, Sr. will. Planter of Parish of
St. George written 4 June 1768. all to Mary during widowhood or life.
Daus. Elizabeth, Mary and Sarah 5 sh. Sons John, Absalom 5 sh. After
death of wife to Jane, Winny, Wrice, Rachel, Nany and Patty. Probated
89 mar. 1769. He (clerk of House) brought to Senate a bill to be
"entitled an act to repeal an act for inflicting penalties on and
confiscating the estates of such persons as are therein declared guilty
of treason ... Absalom Wells... " [notes of Mildred Ezell]
1785 - John Wells receives a warrant for 200
acres in Washington Co., all sides vacant. [warrant , W. 63].
Another 300 acres in in Washington Co., on
Williamson's Swamp, bounded E. By Harrell. [warrants, W. 74]
1795 - John Wells settles on land on the
headwaters of Sandy Creek in Adams Co. Miss. Natchez territory.

#1909. Claimant: John Wells, 31 Aug. 1804.
Witness: Darling Bradley, 22 Oct. 1804.
Certificate D-160 issued 16 Dec. 1806. Miss. Terr. John Wells. who was
the head of a family on 3 Mar. 1803, claims a donation right of 640
acres cultivated and settled before 1795. He has been living on it ever
since, situated on the headwaters of Sandy Creek in Adams Co.
#1234 Claimant: Absolem Wells, 26 Mar 1804.
Witness: John Wells, 31 Aug. 1804.
Certificate D-153 issued Dec. 16, 1806. Absolem Wells, who was the head
of a family 3 Mar 1803, claims a pre-emptive right ot 178 acres by
virtue of having improved the same Feb. 1802 and having settled thereon
Feb. 1803, ever sence which period he recided on and cultivated the
same. He owns no other land in this territory.//
"Surveyed for Absolem Wells 178 acres on a branch of Sandy Creek,
called Bates Creek, in Adams Co. Miss. Terr. ....Vousdan's land, Moses

Whereas Pearson Wells having signified to us
his intention of traveling to the Natchez Country Which is his Place of
Residence and Where his father and familey Resides he having been in
this State With his Friends for a While and During that time I have had
an opportunity of being aquainted. With him & he has behaved
him-self as an honest Sober young man an I have Never heard and hope he
Will be treated as such by All hones Well Disposed Persons he behaveing
himself as heartofore given under our hands this 30th Sept. 1806.

February 24, 1815, intestate, leaving sundry minor children, including
Pearson.

Meeting of the heirs. Present were: Susannah
Wells, widow; Pearson Wells, William Wells, and Benjamin Wells--sons;
Robert Holloway, sone-in-law; Ruth, a daughter.
John Wells was first married to Jane Duhart, by whom he had the
following children: Absalom Wells; Polly Wells; John Wells, deceased;
Thomas Wells, deceased; William Wells; Rachel Wells; Esther Wells,
deceased; Rebecca Wells, and Rice Wells, deceased.
John Wells had the following children by his second marriage to
Susannah Young: Pearson Wells, Sarah Wells, Elizabeth Wells, Winnie
Wells, Sina Wells, Ruth Wells, James Wells, and Benjamin Wells.
By a statement of the widow, the deceased had at the time of his last
marriage: a tract of land on Briar Creek in the state of Georgia, sold
at sheriff's sale --$269; cattle.[ Succession records of St. Helena

William Womack deposed and said that he lived
in Burke Co., GA., in the year 1785. He also stated that John Wells of
the state of GA. married Susannah Boykin. [Succession records of St.

Decree of partition of Thomas Butler, Judge of
3rd distraict Court, St. Helena Parish: The widow, Susannah Wells,
shall have teh 1/3 part of the $1350, being that estate whichJohn Wells
had wen he ____? to the Spanish Government; and she shall have one
equal half of all the rest and residue of the estate of John Wells as
her portion of acquets and gains. the other half of the other acquets
and gains and the remaining $900 of the $1350 shall be equally divided
among the 13 heirs; Pearson, William, Rebecca Holloway, Sarah Simms,
Winnie Jones, Sina, Ruth, James, Benjamn, Elizabeth McWater, Racher
Havard, Mary Barrett, and Absalom Wells. [Succession records of St.
