Asa Dyer in front of a house he
built in Grinnell, Iowa.
1857- Asa is born in Illinois although his parents had lived in Missouri a couple of times. By this date they had gone to Indiana where they remained until the Civil War broke out and moved back again to Missouri.
1881- By this year Asa had moved back with his
family to Clinton Co., Indiana where he apparently meets and marries Mary
Willis Henry. The marriage certificate states that they were married in
Thornton, which is just across the southwestern border of Clinton Co. but
in Boone Co., Indiana. We suspect that it may have been closer to go here
than to the Clinton county seat.
The Marriage Certificate of Thorntown, Indiana
certifies that Asa Theodore Dyer
of Thorntown, Indiana
and Mary Willis Henry of
Thorntown, Indiana
were unitied by me in the Bonds of Holy
Matrimony
At Thorntown, Indiana on the Twelfth Day of December
in the year of our Lord 1881
In the Presence of S. L. Henry (and) Ida Henry
Signed Rev. George Reber, Pastor
The fact the S. L. Henry and Ida Henry were witnesses to this marriage give us reason to believe that the Mary Henry is related to the Henry family of Kentucky where Squire Sturgeon has been found. We still have not discovered proof that positively makes this connection.
1890, Mar 12 - Hazel Grace Dyer is born in Montgomery
County, Iowa. [certificate of birth, Montgomery County, Iowa, records of
1889 p. 12]
Lottie in the 1900 census is listed as a daughter.
Aunt Birdie is Mary J. Scott, Robert Dyer's daughter
1898 - The letter (abstacted on another page) by Robert Alexander Dyer's grand-daughter, Maud, who is living in Clinton Co., Indiana. Asa T. Dyer, his son, is living in Orient, Adair County, Indiana and seems to have some problem with his eyes and has a hard time seeing and doing the work necessary to keep the extended family. Robert and his wife, Mary, are alive in Frankfort Co., Indiana after moving from Manson Co. Indiana.
1900- Asa T. Dyer is in Orient Township, Adair County, Iowa census.
on the same page: Four houses away is Martha Henry,
80 years old, widow, born in Iowa, father from Kentucky, mother Pennsylvannia.
Living with her is her 40 year old son,"Squire" L. Henry, a 48 year old
son, James Henry, along with six grandchildren between the ages of 24 and
6.

1912- Mary Willis Dyer dies in Creston, Iowa. According to the Death Certificate of Mary Willis Henry Dyer, Martha's daughter, Martha is the daughter of a Sturgeon. John Henry in this document also is listed as born in Kentucky with nothing listed for a birth place for Martha. The information on this certificate was provided by Lena Whiteman in Creston, Iowa who is Mary Dyer's daughter. [Death Certificate, Creston, Iowa. 30 Jun 1913, p.109
