1836, March 5 - Mads was born in the Søndbjerg parish region of Refs, Thisted of the Jutland peninsula.  He has private baptism on March 8th which usually indicated that the infant is ill and not expected to recover . Also listed here as witness are Niels Christian Nielsen,  Christine Sørensdatter of Helleroe, Poul Møller,  Iver Enevolosen, Thomas Christensen, Zidsel Christensdatter. [Dan. Fam.  At some point in his early years he visits the Lihme area. Apparently according to his grand daughter's letter below he was a salesman of fabric and anything else the farmers might need.  On one of the farms that he frequented he meets his wife who is from the Lihme area.   He marries and has three children but his first wife dies of TB.   Since TB was almost an epidemic at this time it is no real surprise that two of the three children die young.  Never the less he apparentlly does get out periodically and after a trip to Germany where he sold a bull, he was known as "Mads Kreammer". "Kreammer" in danish means shopkeeper or perhaps salesman.   As far as I've been able to discover he was a traveling salesman and later a land owner. (records of Pers Jensen)

1860 - census -  Ane Christensen shows here at age of 16.  Her mother Kristen is here also with her other children.  No father is present.  

1866- Marriage of Mads and Ane Kirstine Christensen in Lihme church.

1870 Census - Mads is married to Ane and they have two children.  I have no idea who the last two people are in this census but look like a man and woman who are probably household help. The question still remains as to whether they were working for Mads or another farm. 

A letter that was written by his grand daughter, Anna Bojesen, in Struer describes some of the events of his life.

1880 Census - Mads is now married to Magdelene and has several children.  Magdelene came to the farm originally as a household helper and after one year they married.  Two children from the first marriage are still living. There seems to be a whole other family living with them.  [records of Per Jensen]

The farm shown above is situated on a somewhat sheltered bay of Venø Bugt north of Hostebro on the Salling peninsula near Lihme.  This area has become rather a tourist mecca and the farm is now a campground next to the beach near the house.

1881 - Kresten Christensen is born.  He migrated to Calif. and dies in Arcata, CA.  Later married   Marie Jepsen in  May 1909 probably in Ferndale, CA.  .

1890 Census.  Several children were born to Magdalene in this ten year period.  Kirsten Marie, the only surviving daughter of the first marriage is still living at home.  Mads is a "gaardejer" which means land owner.
