We have done so little research on this family that everything here is open to change and verification. We have not been able to identify the father of Thomas and George Terry whom we feel are related. William and John are still only "best guesses". There are many Terry's in the Yorkshire area of England that we suspect may be the origination of the family.
1785 - 1790- Of the two or more brothers, Thomas Terry seems to have come to the colonies shortly after the American Revolution. He seems intent on setting up a ministry in the wilds of Fork Shoals, South Carolina. R. Y. H. Terry, Thomas' grandson, contends that there were four brothers Thomas, George, William and John.
1800 - US Census. In this record we see Thomas
Terry and perhaps his
brothers and their children living nearby.

We have extremely few records of William Terry Sr. although William Terry Jr. seems to have married Mahala Graydon. He appears in court records as late a 1843 in Laurens Co., S. C. receiving funds on the part of his wife. We are unsure if he is the William Jr. in the census records.
