Mary Sherman was 21 years old when she married James on 21 August 1788, Hart Co. Ky death records lists Mary at age of 105 when she died on 9 Apr 1858. this would make Mary 91 instead of 105. [Record of Loretta Beasley email of 9/20/00]
Mary is listed in the household of James Martin (22) and wife Julia A. (19) Sturgeon, Hart Co., 1850 p 239 as being 95 years old and blind born in Pennsylvannia. [US Census Records , Hart Co., p.239]

1805, Feb. 21 - James Sturgeon makes a marriage bond for his daughter "Nellie".

Know all men by these presents that we Michael House and Gambril Cox are held and firmly bound unto his Exclly Christopher Greenup, Esqr, Governor of the State of Kentucky and his Successors in the sum of fifty pounds current money which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves and our heirs jointly and severally by these presents sealed with our Seals and dated this 15th day of February 1805.

1847-Sept 15-Deed

This indenture made & entered into the 15th day of September 1847 between John Davis of Williamson County Tennessee of the first part and John Stugeon of Warren County Kentucky of the second part, Witnesseth that the said Davis for and in consideration of Eight hunderd dollards paid in cash and Incurred to be paid in part by notes of hand, has bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain, sell and convey by said Sturgeon, two sixteen and a half acres of land situated in the said county of Warren on the North side of Big Barren River and on the North side of Cook Knob and bounded as follows. Beginning at the Stone by a red oak thence N5E90 poles to a Stake where a post oak and ash formerly stood near a Sinking Spring thence the same course, continued 38 poles to a stake in the line of a 400 acre survey patented in the name of Betsy Grider thence N68 1/2 E 160 poles to a stake in the line of 200 acres of land conveyed by William Bratton to Martin Grider on the 25 of January 1819 by deed recorded in the clerks office of the Warren County Court. thence plots a line of the same N50 E 30 poles to the North East Corner of said 200 acres thence S40 E60 poles to a stake Chaplins corner thence with his line S33 E130 poles to a stake on his line thence S75 W273 poles to the Beginning with its appernsterances to him or to hold to the said Sturgeon his heirs and assigns forever and the said Davis doth convey and agree to warrent and defend the title of said land which embrases 2 1/2 acres conveyed him by Martin Mitchell .14 acres conveyed him by John Grider and 300 acres conveyed to him by the widow and heirs of Martin Grider ??? unto the said Sturgeon his heirs and assignes against the claims of all person whatever. In testimony whereof he hath there to set his hand and seal this date above written.

1850 - Chapman and Wadsworth disagree on the order of the marriages of Squire Henry. The 1850 census lists Mary as the wife. She is the right age to have been the mother of all the listed children.

Hannah (Flatt) Sturgeon's father was John Flatt who owned and operated Mammoth Cave and mined saltpetre from it, according to the Kentucky Historical Society. He sold the Mammoth Cave in Hardin Co., KY in 1812 and moved to Green Co., IL by 1803.
